Frommers Guide

Being listed in a Frommers guide is no small feat, and “frenetically stylish” Didier Ludot (owner and shop name) in Paris is in there, and it’s the only vintage store they list. It is fitting that the three locations (yes, three), of Didier Ludot are so close to the Louvre, as the vintage pieces inside are of museum quality…and price.

Each of Didier Ludot’s three locations at the Palais-Royal specialize in a specific category of clothing: evening couture, ready to wear, and one shop of just little black dresses (a passion of Ludot’s, who’s published a book on the subject, aptly titled The Little Black Dress). Ludot, of course, specializes in vintage from French designers such as Chanel, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Balmain, YSL, Lanvin, and Hermes (to name a few).

Don’t’s worry, they speak English in the shop (German too); and by all accounts Mr. Ludot is friendly and helpful despite the very high end caliber of vintage he sells. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see the owner himself or his dogs in one of his shops. You may even see one of his famous clientele like Rachel Zoe or Reese Witherspoon.

The point is, that Didier Ludot is vintage heaven, and though you may not be able to afford anything, you will be able to touch, feel, and even try on some of the most exquisite pieces of clothing ever produced.
